There are conflicting theories as to how the northern headland of Bondi became known as Ben Buckler.

Some say it was named after the convict Benjamin Buckler who lived with the local Aboriginal people. Others say it was named after a bushranger who hid in a cave in the rocks near here. It's also thought that the name is a corruption of an Indigenous word ‘benbuckalong’. All are interesting stories.
